Updates for the 2008 model have been minimal due to major makeover plans for the 2009 Acura TL. The TL is currently on its fifth model.
The main features updated are the choice of two new exterior colors and a warning light monitoring-system for the tire pressure.
There are also now 76 metropolitan markets covered in the satellite navigation traffic-reporting system (AcuraLink). This is up from 44 on the last release. |

The Acura TL was once compared to the Honda Accord but considered more luxurious. The TL is a 3.2 liter V6 with 258 brake horsepower sports sedan and runs best on the higher end of the rpm dial.
There is an upgrade to the standard Acura TL, 3.5 liter V6 with 286 brake horsepower which is labelled the Type-S for the sportier driver.
Acura has made sure both vehicles qualify as ultra-low-emissions even though they both require premium unleaded fuel.
Fuel-economy for the vehicles is as follows:
TL model:
City mpg: 18
Highway mpg: 26
Type-S Model:
City mpg: 18
Highway mpg: 27
The main distinction between both models is the choice of transmission, both offer an automatic five-speed option but the TL Type-S also offers the choice of a six-speed manual gearbox with a close-ratio and limited-slip differential. There is also a nice feature for the automatic which is the fingertip paddle shifters.

The market is full of rear-drive vehicles and the Acura TL is a front-drive, there is more than enough power but this also is its major problem because the steering wheel pulls and jerks to one side when the acceleration is pushed hard this is commonly known as torque steer most noticeably seen in the Type-S model. When taking a corner hard both models are reluctant to comply.
On a positive note the braking is very good it handles course changes well and the quality of the ride is firm. Compared to other similar models in the market place both TL models have good interior space. |
